REFERENCES
1. Ian Smit – Cape Times Sports Editor ( 082-4920279, 021-4884631, ian.smit@iol.co.za )
Anthony McLennan wrote a number of soccer articles for the Cape Times during a two-week period in 2008. I was most impressed with the quality of his work. He writes with skill and authority on the game of football, and his command of the English language is first-class. He was also a pleasure to deal with, and his copy was filed timeously. I have no hesitation in warmly recommending him for any position he may apply for.
Sincerely, Ian Smit
2. Archie Henderson – The Times Sports Editor ( 082-493-4715, 011-340-9420, hendersona@sundaytimes.co.za )
Anthony McLennan worked for The Times as a freelance football reporter in Cape Town from the paper's inception in June 2007 until early 2009. Because of the economic downturn and cost-cutting at The Times, the arrangement had to be terminated, albeit reluctantly. During his time as the Cape Town football correspondent for The Times, Anthony proved to be a reliable and accurate reporter of matches as well as revealing good writing skills. The Times was sorry to end his services and is indeed poorer for the lack of them. I would not hesitate to recommend Anthony for any position in the field of sports journalism.
Yours faithfully,
Archie Henderson, Sports Editor, The Times
3. Neil Greig, Kick Off Editor (ngreig@touchline.co.za, 083 293 4183)
Anthony has always used passion and therefore Kick Off uses him for our Cape Town match reports. He’s readily available and willing to put in the effort and submit quality copy, which is the benchmark at Kick Off magazine.
He has also learnt that in today’s market, reporters need to write with a magazine and online cap on. Anthony regularly contributes website news articles and has provided more in-depth profiles for our magazine.
4. Anthony Pascoe, Sunday Media Managing Editor ( ap@sundaymedia.co.za 083 406 5666)
This serves to confirm that Sunday Media employed Anthony McLennan on a full time basis for a year in 2005-06. Subsequent to that we have made extensive use of his services on a freelance basis.
Anthony’s writing skills are top class and his understanding of and passion for South African soccer always shines through in his work. His knowledge of the local game is second to none and his broad variety of contacts have added value to Sunday Media’s football department.
I believe that Anthony has a bright future in the local soccer media and would be an asset to any company.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further questions.

5. Nick Said (0832722948) :Former Operations Manager at 365, now Managing Editor at Kick Off Magazine
Anthony McLennan joined 365 Digital Publishing in January 2003, tasked with taking the company’s newly-founded South African soccer offering forward.
Anthony proved to be a hard-worker, whose passion for the subject matter shone through. His diligence and attention to detail are perhaps two of his greatest assets, and it was these attributes that quickly saw him handed sole leadership of the four South African soccer websites under 365’s wing.
He handled the added responsibility with maturity and proved exceptionally reliable in this regard. I am convinced Anthony has a bright future in journalism, and he would be a welcome addition to any publication.
6. Gavin Smith (082 379 1700) :Former News Room Manager at 365, now employed as Content Manager by Engen.
Anthony is a talented journalist with an encyclopedic knowledge of South African football. Working alongside him, he always displayed an exceptionally high level of professionalism and a meticulous eye for detail. Anthony will be an extremely valuable addition to any newsroom.
